FileMaker Pro uses its own internal clipboard format — so AI-generated scripts, layouts, objects and field definitions simply won't paste. FM Script Paster bridges that gap with one keystroke.

No exports, no imports, no plugins inside FileMaker — and no code editor or extension to install. Just a selection and a single shortcut, in whichever app you are already working in.
Ask your AI assistant for a FileMaker script or layout, then simply select the XML in your chat window — a document, email or web page works just as well. There's no need to copy it first.
Pick it from the Services menu — present in every Mac app — or press the shortcut you assigned to it. FM Script Paster works out what it's looking at and converts it, entirely on your Mac.
Switch to FileMaker and press ⌘V in Script Workspace, Layout Mode or Manage Database. Your script steps, layout objects or field definitions appear — exactly as intended.
Prefer the menu bar? The FM icon does the same job — but there, copy your text as usual first, then choose Convert Clipboard for FileMaker. Only the Services route works straight from a selection. The other three tools read FileMaker's own clipboard, so they always begin with a copy too.
FileMaker keeps scripts, layouts and field definitions in three separate internal clipboard formats. FM Script Paster recognises which one it's dealing with and writes the right one for you — there's nothing to choose.
Whole scripts or a handful of steps, arriving complete with calculations, local and global variables, field references and nested If / Else / Loop structures. Around forty step types are recognised, from Set Field and Go to Layout to Perform Script and comments.
Buttons, text blocks, fields, rectangles, portals, tab controls and slide panels — with their styling, rounded corners, hover states, conditional formatting and script triggers intact. Copy a single button, or an entire tab panel with everything inside it.
A whole table's worth of fields in one go, rather than defining them one at a time. Text, number, date, time, timestamp and container fields, plus calculations and summaries — carrying their auto-enter calculations, validation rules, storage and indexing options, and comments.
All three travel in both directions. Copy objects out of FileMaker and FM Script Paster turns them back into plain XML or readable text, so you can hand an existing script or layout to an AI and ask it to explain, document or rework it — then paste the answer straight back in.
A quick look at FM Script Paster in action — from an AI-generated script to working steps inside FileMaker.
FM Script Paster sits quietly in your menu bar. The main conversion is also a system Service, so it reaches you inside whichever app you happen to be working in.
Converts selected or copied script text and fmxmlsnippet XML into the clipboard format FileMaker can paste. Handles scripts, layouts, layout objects, field definitions, custom functions, value lists and tables.
It also repairs the mistakes AI models reliably make: stray StepList wrappers that stop a paste dead, style values that render text struck through, rgba() colours where FileMaker demands hex, wrong enclosing rectangles, and markdown code fences left behind when you copy a whole chat reply.
Strips FileMaker's internal clipboard types and exposes the raw XML as plain text — ready to paste into Claude, a text editor, version control, or anywhere else.
Turns FileMaker script steps and field definitions from the clipboard into clean, human-readable text. Perfect for AI review, documentation, or sharing with colleagues who don't use FileMaker.
Big layouts run to megabytes of styling data — far too large for any AI to read. This strips the CSS, icon data and formatting, keeping only the buttons, scripted fields and triggers. A 4 MB layout comes out around 70 KB, small enough to paste straight into a chat.
Most tools only go one direction. FM Script Paster gives you full round-trip access between FileMaker and the world of plain text and AI.

FM Script Paster ships with a detailed knowledge file that teaches Claude exactly what FileMaker needs — the XML structure for scripts, layouts and field definitions, plus the gotchas and edge cases that trip up AI-generated output.
Export it from the menu bar in one click, then add it to your Claude project, paste it into a chat, or drop it into Claude Code. From that moment, Claude generates FileMaker XML that converts and pastes correctly — first time, every time.
Works with Claude.ai projects, Claude Code, and any AI tool that accepts reference documents.
Every conversion happens locally, on your own machine. There is no server in the loop — nothing is uploaded, nothing is queued for processing elsewhere, and no account is involved.
That matters if you work under an NDA or on regulated data: there is no data-retention policy to read, no third-party processor to name in your paperwork, and no outage that can stop you working. FM Script Paster also asks for no system permissions at all — no Accessibility, no input monitoring, no network access.
Buy it once and it is yours, including every future update. There is no annual renewal, no seat count to manage, and no licence server your Mac has to check in with before it will work.
Three years from now, it will still have cost you £24.99.
FM Script Paster is tested against FileMaker Pro 19.6, 20.3, 21.1, 22.0 and 26.0 — so it works whether you're maintaining a long-standing deployment or running the current release. Where the clipboard format differs between versions, the app writes both the older and the newer form, so the same paste succeeds on either.
FM Script Paster doesn't yet cover every FileMaker script step, field option, or layout object. FileMaker's internal format is vast, and we're mapping it piece by piece — with new elements and script steps added every month. The bundled AI knowledge file grows alongside the app as we verify each new structure, and updates are free for the life of the app. If you hit something that isn't supported yet, use the built-in feedback menu: real reports decide what gets added next.
The bundled knowledge file is plain Markdown, so it can be added to any AI assistant you like — cloud-based, or a model running locally on your own machine. In our own day-to-day FileMaker development, though, Anthropic's Claude has consistently produced the most accurate scripts and layouts, and it's the model we test against first. If you're choosing an AI to pair with FM Script Paster, start there.
We add new script steps and layout elements every month. Each release is listed here, so you can see exactly what changed rather than taking our word for it.
StepList wrappers and style values that render text struck through are now corrected on the way through.Something you need that isn't supported yet? The in-app feedback form goes straight to the developer, and real reports decide what gets built next.
